The Standard Pace is for Chumps

Can you find another way?

Listening to yet another Tim Ferris Show Podcast, I came across this line. It sings. It spoke to me in a way that no one had before. So basic, clear, yet true, about everything in life, from learning how to sing to completing a university degree, or building a business or getting to a million dollars a year (the dream for many of us).

Institutions, workplaces, universities, schools, clubhouses need to adjust whatever they offer so that the most of people can qualify and complete it.

Universities recommend five subjects a semester. Two semesters per year. But if you’re keen, you can take on five per semester and another two in summer school. 12 courses per year. Not eight. Complete a three year degree in two.

The roads are for old people. Speed limits, braking distances, speed in corners is all designed so that everyone can do it.

It’s everywhere you look. The standard pace is not for you, oh gracious reader. You don’t have to follow it. Fuck it.

Not that I get anything out of this, but whatever you’re working on right now—make sure you’re not in the same bucket as someone who works at snail pace. You can do it now. You can do it because you’ve done it before.
