Stop Believing Yourself

Believe IN Yourself

A great man (Derek Sivers) once said “be careful when someone starts a sentence with the words ‘I believe’. Whatever follows will be a lie”.

Beliefs are things we can’t prove with facts.

I’ve interviewed a lot of leaders, and there are a few beliefs that keep coming up. Maybe you believe the same things:

- People are the biggest challenge.

- There is no ‘one way’ to manage time better.

- It’s hard to find time.

- Corporations are just a place to make money.

- Leadership is hard work.

- Unfair treatment is real.

- Managing stakeholders is hard work.

- No one is looking out for me, so I need to look out for myself.

The great thing is, all of these are just our interpretations of what we’ve experienced. They aren’t grounded by fact. We’ve generalised based on the limited experience we have. They’re all lies.

So what’s true?

  1. You’re alive

  2. You’re reading this right now

  3. You’ve accomplished things in your life despite setbacks

If you want to lie, then choose the lies.

Believe that you don’t have limits. And you won’t.
