One Calendar to Rule Them All
And it doesn't cost you anything.
I don’t know about you, but I use my personal calendar a lot. I don’t feel comfortable putting in my personal appointments into my work calendar. Things like my Physio appointments, my haircut, lunch with friends or even people I was interviewing for this book.
When things would get busy at work AND in my personal life I’d sometimes double book myself. Much to the dismay of my fiancé. So I set out looking for a solution to this problem.
I tried out all the apps that merge calendars, I tried different email clients and aside from the super high-tech solution of setting up my own server I just couldn’t find an easy way to manage my schedule.
Until one day.
I joined a business accelerator program. I tried it and I wasn’t learning a lot so I pulled out. They had sent me a link to come to virtual meetings and I continued to get invites to these meetings for a while. That’s when it clicked for me. You can subscribe to calendars. The solution to merging my calendars was in front of me the whole time.
Whichever calendar(s) you use for personal or work, you can share a ‘subscribe’ link to that calendar and receive an updated feed of that calendar. If you can’t find this, search online. Once you’ve done that it’s a simple step to decide what you’re going to use and put everything in there.
For example I use the default apple calendar app on my iPhone (I still like you if you use an Android phone). Inside that calendar I have subscribed to my work calendar and my personal email. I’ve chosen to colour work stuff to brown, and personal stuff purple. Now I can just use the one calendar and see everything.
It’s been life changing for me to have all the meetings and reminders in one place. If you’re using more than one calendar at the moment, I recommend you set this up. If this takes you more than 5 minutes, I’ll give you your money back*. It’ll save you much more than 5 minutes in the long run.
Your time is valuable.
*You’re not paying me anyway.
